The course covers the international regulatory and supervisory framework and how regulatory authorities execute their mandates to promote the safety, soundness, and stability of the financial system.
It introduces the fundamental concepts of banking supervision and regulation; the risk‑focused supervisory approach; the use of onsite examinations and offsite surveillance; and the supervisory tools used to address problem banking institutions, including enforcement actions and Prompt Corrective Action.
The course also examines the role of international organizations, such as the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision and the Financial Stability Board, which play an active role in shaping global supervisory and regulatory standards. The Basel Core Principles for Effective Banking Supervision will be referenced throughout to reinforce key concepts and practices.
